2022 Scholarship Breakfast

Join us on Thursday, September 8 at the Houston Food Bank for the 2022 Scholarship Breakfast. Doors open at 7:45 a.m. and event begins promptly at 8 a.m. This year, PRSA Houston awarded a total of $15,000 to eight (8) scholarship recipients!

Terri Thomas

Operations Manager and Program Director with Radio One Houston, talent coach and brand architect 

Terri Thomas is an award-winning Operations Manager/Program Director for KBXX, KMJQ, KROI (Radio One in Houston, Texas). She has been nationally recognized by Radio & Records, Billboard Magazine, Rolling Stone, All Access, Radio Ink and Radio Facts. Terri is also the recipient of the prestigious Ronnie Johnson Industry Mentor of the Year Award and the Music Business Empowerment Conference Industry Trailblazer Award. She is known as a problem solver and has a proven track record of coaching and creating award winning teams evident by ratings and revenue success. Her creativity, passion and positive energy is infectious. She loves to help people achieve their dreams and spends time mentoring many up-and-coming media, music, and entertainment professionals across the country.

Terri is a published author of two children’s books “J Mac is the Freestyle King” and “The New Kid”. She has also worked with Artbridge as a volunteer teaching art to homeless children as vehicle to build their self-esteem. She currently works with St. Jude Children’s Hospital as an inaugural member of the St. Jude Radio Cares Advisory Council.

Terri is married to her “Mr. Wright”, Tim and is Bonus Mom to 4 amazing daughters (Reagan, Piper, Mattie, Abi) as well as a fur-mom to DJ (dog) and Bella (cat). One of her proudest accomplishments is being recognized as Mom of the Year 2022 by her Royalwood Church family. Besides music, Terri loves cycling, movies, card games, spending time outdoors and chasing adventure with her beloved family and friends. Her motto is “Keep God first, Family, Follow your Dreams!”

Rita Garcia

ABC 13

Rita Garcia is a weekday morning anchor on ABC13. Rita is no stranger to Houston, as she was previously a weekday morning anchor in the market. Prior to joining the ABC family, Rita worked as a morning anchor in Los Angeles on Good Day LA (KTTV - FOX 11).

Rita was born in Austin, Texas. She picked up a microphone at a very young age when her parents gave her a tape recorder with a mic to read her stories aloud. She would constantly practice and record herself and, as they say, the rest is history.

Rita began her television career in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas at ABC (KRG - Ch 5) where she was Cameron County bureau chief. She reported on a number of international border stories. She's also a proud alumna of Texas State University in San Marcos.
