Betsy Ballard is the former chief communications officer at the Houston Food Bank, the largest food bank in the nation, serving hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. Through food pantries, soup kitchens and other agencies, each year the Food Bank feeds 800,000 people who struggle with the realities and indignity of hunger.

Betsy’s career in nonprofit communications began in 1994 at United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast, then moved to the University of Houston-Downtown in 1999. She worked in the pre-dawn hours anchoring radio morning news for much of the first 17 years of her career.

She is a graduate of Purdue University, and earned an APR, or Accreditation in Public Relations. Betsy is a member of Leadership Houston Class XVI.
